"He lies" was the succinct statement on his school report in 1884. "He" was Hermann Hesse, who attended the mission school in our building and lived in the built-in boarding house for a few months as his parents were working for the Basel Mission at that time. The former boarding house building does as well still exist and is located in the back area of our hotel complex.
In his honour, a Hermann Hesse room was created in 2012 (50th anniversary of his death). The room combines modern conveniences with decor and furnishings that recall those to be found in nice middle-class homes during Hesse's lifetime. You will find one of his watercolours and a small collection of the Nobel Prize winners works in this room. Ask for the Hermann Hesse room when booking with us and dive into a different world.
