Alexander Calder at the Fondation Beyeler! This exhibition will chart significant historical milestones in Calder’s oeuvre, from Cirque Calder in the 1920s and his shift to abstraction in 1930 to his invention of the mobile in the early 1930s, culminating in his brilliantly virtuoso treatment of the formal possibilities that arose as a result.

Alexander Girard (1907–1993) was one of the most influential textile artists and interior designers of the twentieth century. This major retrospective of Girard’s oeuvre draws on the Vitra Design Museum’s holdings from his private estate and presents furniture, textiles and sculptures as well as numerous sketches, drawings and collages never shown before. A selection of 300 objects from his collection is also featured in the exhibition.

This museum is dedicated to the work of the iron sculptor Jean Tinguely. With the construction of the museum building, designed by Renzo Piano, in 1997, the Beyeler collection has been made permanently accessible to the public.
